The Supreme Court and Court of Appeals have clerks of court who are appointed to their positions and are responsible for the custody, control and storage of all appellate records. At the trial court level, circuit court clerks are elected on a partisan basis and are responsible for the custody, control and safe storage of Circuit Court and District Court records.

Caseload: Monthly by Category - Kentucky Court of Justice
Cases are categorized into broad groups and narrow categories for the purpose of reporting. Cases are grouped according to Jurisdiction (Circuit or District) as well as configuration (Civil or Criminal). Cases that may be filed in Circuit Family Court rather than General Circuit or District Court depending on the location of filing are grouped together in the Domestic Relations and Juvenile Groups.
